Sunrise Celebrates Opening of The Pointe for Active Seniors

Grand opening celebrations were recently held at The Pointe at Sunrise, a newly opened apartment neighborhood of Sunrise Retirement Community.

Open Houses and the ribbon cutting included tours of model apartments, dining rooms, the library, fitness center and more. Sunrise hosted the Mayor's Weekly Press Conference as part of the festivities to mark the opening of the major campus addition.

The Pointe is a new, 62-home apartment community for active seniors with its own fitness center, dining rooms, activity rooms, underground garage, 24-hour security and other perks. It opened in March, attracting some seniors back to live in Sioux City after moving away.

"We're creating a community of active seniors on our campus that, in a sense, is like a college dorm for seniors," says Char Hesse, director of marketing.

The apartments have added to the many living options on the Sunrise campus.

"We began as a health center, and were one of the first area senior communities to provide independent living options for seniors," explains Bev Zenor, executive director at Sunrise. "Today we offer a range of senior living choices—independent homes and apartments, nursing care, assisted living, memory care and short-term respite care for seniors after an injury or illness."

Sunrise plans to replace its current health center, formerly known as Sunrise Manor. The new health center will feature two 18-room nursing neighborhoods and 34 assisted living apartments for seniors. It will also connect to two memory care communities. Sunrise pioneered dementia care with the first memory care center in Iowa in 1992.

"With continued support from the community, our building plans will represent the largest senior housing and services endeavor in the history of senior services in Siouxland," says Richard Keith, president of the Sunrise board of directors.

With 180 employees and 250 residents, Sunrise is a locally-managed community with a local board of directors guiding its growth. To learn more call Hesse at 712-212-5468.
