Sunrise Retirement points to new horizons
The landscape is changing at Sunrise
Retirement Community—and Sunrise Manor will soon be no more.
In its place? A new Sunrise—anchored by The Pointe at Sunrise, a new
62-home apartment complex for active seniors that opens this month. Amenities
include a full-size kitchen, heated parking, and 24-hour security, along with
an executive chef, fitness area, and other perks.
According to Char Hesse, marketing director
for The Pointe, this new complex is about more than comforts and conveniences. "We're
really focused on creating a community," says Hesse. She has already
formed a new neighbors club and filled the calendar with upcoming events.
Next, Sunrise plans to replace its health
center. Expected by 2010, its new health center will integrate state-of-the-art
technology to ensure quality care. At the same time, it will feature
two 18-room nursing neighborhoods and 34 assisted living apartments—all
that foster person-centered care.
In addition, the health center will
enhance its memory care services. Sunrise pioneered new dementia care
with the state's first memory care community in the early 1990s. As restraints
were exchanged for relationships, residents remained engaged with each
other and those they loved.
"The new apartments, health center,
and memory care neighborhoods are good examples of what Sunrise terms
its 'comprehensive continuum of care,'" explains Bev Zenor, executive
director of Sunrise Retirement Community. "We began as a health
center, but we were also one of the first communities in Siouxland to
provide independent living options for seniors. Today we really do offer
a variety of living choices that can serve seniors throughout various
stages of their lives."
With 180 employees and 250 residents,
Sunrise is also serving Siouxland.
"What makes Sunrise unique is that
it is locally managed—based right here in Siouxland. Its success
benefits our entire community," says Richard Keith, president of
the Sunrise board of directors. "With continued community support,
our building plans will represent the largest senior housing and services
endeavor in the history of senior services in Siouxland."
