Sunrise Board Leader Receives 2009 Governor's
Volunteer Award
Richard Keith, past president of the
Sunrise Board of Directors has received the 2009 Governor's Volunteer
Award of Iowa for outstanding volunteerism.
Keith has served as a board member since
1992, four of the last five years as president, "an extraordinary
time" when Sunrise developed its master plan to transform the 50
year old campus, says Bev Zenor, executive director.
Under Keith's leadership, the board completed phase I of its plan – a
$12.7 million apartment home for active seniors. As past president, he leads
efforts on phase II – a $16 million project to replace the current health
center building.
He has spent a half day a week working
for Sunrise for the past 17 years, met with residents and the staff on
the master plan and personally volunteered with a former resident for
10 years.
"Dick always kept the board focused
on the mission of service at Sunrise," Zenor says. "The volunteer
leadership from Dick and all of our board members impacts the lives of
our 270 residents, 180 employees and much more."
